Idea
Designed as a one-stop shop by the firm of architects Ronacher ZT GmbH, the Ibex House combines an Info and Service Point, exhibition rooms, a restaurant with panoramic terrace, a multi-purpose hall, the National Park Shop and the Association headquarters of the official sponsoring body of the Hohe Tauern National Park, all under one roof.
The Ibex House therefore offers the ideal conditions for embarking on an eco-friendly exploration of the Grossglockner adventure area and for education work on species preservation.

Implementation
-
The ‘King of the Alps’ deserves a stunning home, which is why the Ibex House has set new standards both architecturally and in terms of exhibition technology. With a planning concept that incorporated both a multi-purpose building and an adventure exhibition, the Ibex House has embraced a holistic building concept that allows visitors to experience the high-alpine habitat through each of their senses.
From the main information foyer in the entrance area, you gain access to the exhibition, the café-restaurant, the shop, the multi-purpose hall, and the Association and administration premises via a short and clearly laid-out route.
Heiligenblut & the Alpine IbexHunted to extinction in Austria by the 17th century, the Alpine ibex only returned to the Hohe Tauern habitat in the 1960s, thanks first and foremost to intensive efforts to resettle the species, which began at the foot of the Grossglockner.
So it is no coincidence that the first visitor facility in the German-speaking countries to focus on the Alpine ibex was established in Heiligenblut. After all, in June 1960 the National Park founding municipality was the scene of the first successful releases of the Alpine ibex in the Glockner region. Since then, Heiligenblut has become one of the best starting points for Alpine ibex observation tours anywhere in the Hohe Tauern.
